I had so much fun with these three sisters the other day. They were so fun and willing to do anything. Mom called to set this up as a Father’s Day gift for dad and was not able to come to the session so it will be a nice surprise for her as well. I could hardly wait to come home and edit these on my computer. They turned out amazing (and it helps when they are all so gorgeous!!) I think every image is my favorite so I picked just a few (which was really hard) They just screamed summer too and with this weather they seem very fitting. Thank you girls for a fun afternoon. I had a blast and cannot wait to hear how much your parents love these!

I am heading out of town Thursday through Monday–to Jamaica for my brother’s wedding. I have a sweet little newborn and her big brother and sister I cannot wait to share, but it will have to wait until I get back.

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph this sweet family at the studio. It was a gorgeous day and we decided to head outside of the studio and take advantage of the awesome weather. These girls were so well behaved, fun and perfect to photograph. Dad is a medic for the army reserves and is leaving soon for a year so this photo session really meant a lot to them. I feel honored to have been able to capture these memories for them!
Hope you all enjoyed the 90 degree day. My face is sunburned!!!

Fine Art Canvas Portraits

I absolutely love canvas portraits and that is probably why I have so many at the studio and in my own home! So when clients order canvases for their homes I get super excited as if they were going up in my own home. The anticipation as I am opening the package is like no other. I am giddy the entire time and then in awe when the canvas is unwrapped. Canvases are truly treasures that will last your family a life time. Today I had to share this image of sweet Juliana and her mom and dad. These are stunning!! The 16×20 looks small next to the 24×30. Any questions about a fine art canvas please ask anytime. I promise you will fall in love with them!

Picking a photographer

It can be really hard to chose a portrait photographer that is right for you and your family, especially today when there are so many to choose from. So I wanted to re post my behind the scenes video from last winter. I think it is really important that you know what you are getting when you hire me, Kelly Smith, to capture these priceless once in a life time images of you and your family. I am silly, patient, full of really weird noises (which you cannot hear in the video thankfully!) and 100% tuned into your child. I like to play with your children and never rush a session. You can think of me as a babysitter for the session. Really I mean it. I like to play and be silly with them–it is then when I get the show stopping images.

Matilda Jane Contest

I had a great time yesterday at one of my client’s Matilda Jane trunk shows. I was there to take pictures of any girl that wanted to be entered into the Matilda Jane photo contest. I tell you girls just light up when they put pretty clothes on. It was really fun and the weather was awesome. Here are just a few pictures from yesterday.
I finally got to use my new headband. I love it, but not sure how to get it on–ha!
Oh and yes I do have three daughters, but my middle has decided not to be in any pictures anymore. Fast forward 15 years and I can hear her asking me “Mom why don’t you have any pictures of me?” Oh well. I’ll have to sneak some.

Sweet Anniston and her mommy came into the studio last week for her newborn portraits. This little peanut soaked her mom a few times and was a little more interested in eating than sleeping, but we still got some amazing portraits! When mom called to let me know she had arrived and I always ask “What is her/his name and she said Anniston I instantly LOVED her name. My first Anniston. If we were having more children (which we are NOT) that would definitely make my short list!

Studio pictures…..30 west Cover

I have totally forgot to post some images from my cover shoots for 30 West magazine and decided to take some pictures of Kenadie at the studio in front of my new fabric and chalkboard wall. Killing two birds with one stone!! I have been shooting the covers since February and have really been enjoying meeting all these amazing people in the Lake Country area. It is so hard for me to wait to see what images will be the next cover–super exciting too. I have already shot June and July’s covers and have to say it just keeps getting better. Be sure to keep an eye out for these!!

She is getting so big. I am going to miss her when she is in school all day next year.

I love maternity sessions because I love to capture the excitement in expecting parents eyes. I love to capture sweet round bellies, glowing faces and the connection between husband and wife. I do have to confess I do love maternity sessions because I know in a few short weeks I get to photography a beautiful newborn baby as well!! Katy just looks fabulous in these images. She is definitely glowing. And their first baby just had to get in a few photographs too. Thank you for a fun session Katy. I will be in touch soon.

Matilda Jane Trunk Show and Studio updates

Wow this Spring has been busy busy busy for us. Time is really flying by and I cannot believe school is out in one month. I am definitely ready for summer weather and some R & R. I have been working very hard with a designer on a new logo and marketing materials for the studio. Today I am showing a little peek at my new logo. I just love it and cannot wait for everything to come together. A new website is in the works too!! It has been very busy with portrait sessions and behind the scenes “stuff” at Kelly Smith Photography. Some of you have seen the new waiting area, new furniture and new big screen TV (soon to be used for in person proofing), fabric wall and chalk board. I am in love with it all and so happy with how everything has turned out.
I also wanted to invite everyone to a Matilda Jane Trunk show at one of my clients house this weekend Sunday May 16th from 3:00 until 5:00. I will be there taking pictures of little girls in Matilda Jane clothes that want to be entered into the MJ contest. Check out the blog for the details. And just a few pictures of my Sawyer modeling some hats for Lisa over at Etsy. Lida is so sweet and wonderful to work with. Check out her site. I spotted this old rusted out truck at the car dealership next door and got their permission to shoot there. I am secretly hoping it stay there all summer. Crossing my fingers big time.
